    Event Details:  Morna Gerrard is the archivist for Women’s/Gender and Sexuality Collections at Georgia State University. In this role, she collects, preserves, and makes available the records and oral histories of women and the LGBTQ+ communities in Atlanta, Georgia, and the South.

    A native of Scotland, Morna was educated at Edinburgh University, Western Washington University, and Clark Atlanta University. She is a fellow and past president of the Society of Georgia Archivists, and a long-time board member of the Georgia Archives Institute, She is also a past vice president and current member of the Georgia LGBTQ History Project (now the Rainbow History Project). Morna has served the community in a variety of ways: For10 years, she was a member of the LGBTQ Institute (Now Rustin Institute) Advisory Board; she served on the advisory board of the Historic Atlanta LGBTQ HPAC, as it worked toward producing the city's LGBTQ Historic Context Statement; she was a member of the AFCRA LGBTQ Community Center Exploratory Committee and she is currently on the Community Center's newly-formed Steering Committee. 

    Among Morna’s published works are book chapters, “No Fame Required: Collaboration, Community, and the Georgia LGBTQ Archives Project,” in Appraisal and Acquisition: Innovative Practices and Special Collections, “Silenced Voices Lesson Plan” and “Exploring Gender Roles in Society, Literature and Film,” in Gender Studies in the Library: Case Studies, Programming, Outreach, “Collective Invention: Learning Through Women’s Activism and Material Culture,” in Students in the Archives: Archival Pedagogy in Practice, and "In Archives and In Health: Pushing and Evolving Collaborative Boundaries Through Times of Change” in How to Work with Academic Faculty: Partnerships, Collaborations. She also wrote an article, “ACTing UP Down South,” in Alexander Street Press’s Women and Social Movements in the U.S., 1600-Present electronic journal.  

    Morna lives in Decatur with her husband and two cats.

    Event Details: 19th-century folk called them rivals, pitting the Romani-flavored, incomparably crafted works of Johannes Brahms against the freewheeling passion and Teutonic bombast of Richard Wagner. To our ears, they just sound Romantic. But what's more Romantic than a good rivalry?

    Immerse yourself in the lush and richly hued sounds of Brahms and Wagner when Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann cues the next installment in Brahms Revealed. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra injects explosive energy into Brahms' tumultuous Third Symphony, passing through a wistful allegretto to a blazing finale. Stutzmann contrasts the Brahms with the Romantic opulence of Richard Wagner, with excerpts from three operas, including the ecstatic Prelude and "Liebestod" from Tristan und Isolde.

    Additional Information: Seats are truly great $55 seats, middle orchestra right, which are provided to us for $22 per seat through the ASO’s community ticketing program. When you register for an ASO event, a ticket is purchased in your name, and you are required to reimburse Paul Hinson for the $22/ticket cost of your ticket(s) the evening of the performance. Cash is accepted in the exact amount.     Registrations can be canceled ONLY 5 days or more before the event. (To cancel a reservation, go to your profile and select  "My event registrations.")     Parking: Free parking is available in the Ansley Park neighborhood along 15th street on weeknights—you’ll see neighborhood parking decal sticker requirements on parking signs but most of those signs will indicate that neighborhood stickers are not required weekday evenings before 10PM. However when parking in that area be advised that occasionally cars are ticketed right after 10PM in the neighborhood to the east of the Arts Center.     Event Details:  Lullwater Preserve lies at the heart of Emory University's campus. The 154 acre preserve contains the home of the University's President, the beautiful Candler Lake, a 210-foot suspension bridge, acres of green space, and miles of walking and jogging trails. Lullwater is the perfect place to experience nature in the city with many species of mammals, reptiles, birds, and lush greenery.


    We will hike for approximately 2-2.5 miles starting and ending on the South Peachtree Creek Trail that is near the Central Dekalb Senior Center and the DeKalb Tennis Center. There is a restroom available at the tennis center and plenty of free parking.


    Following the hike at approximately 12:45 p.m. we will go to Athens Pizza for an optional lunch. 

    Directions: Take McConnell Drive past the senior center to the end; then, at the "T" intersection turn left and park.

    What to Bring:  You may wish to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, and bug spray on the hike.

Not quite jazz and not quite classical, the beguiling sounds of Porgy, plus the watershed Rhapsody in Blue, render the spirit of New York City into irresistible, toe-tapping fun.

    After intermission, the orchestra drops into overdrive for Carl Nielsen's indomitable Fourth Symphony, nicknamed The Inextinguishable. The Orchestra welcomes the debuts of Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska and jazz pianist Sullivan Fortner.

    Additional Information: Seats are truly great $55 seats, middle orchestra right, which are provided to us for $22 per seat through the ASO’s community ticketing program. Some people have been feeling quite anxious about the outcome of various races in this election. The early voting period starts October 13 and ends October 30. So, whether you vote during the early voting period or plan to vote early on Election Day, please come join us for a friendly walk to calm your jittery nerves.

    Event Details, from the program: Brahms Revealed, the season-long Brahms festival, continues with a psychological profile of the composer. Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann kicks it off with a splendorous orchestral suite by Brahms’s hero, Johann Sebastian Bach. She follows the suite with something of a joke. When the officials at the University of Breslau awarded Brahms an honorary degree, they hoped that he would write them a symphony. Ever bullheaded and often a tease, Brahms instead gave them the Academic Festival Overture, a rollicking piece packed with student drinking songs.

    In 1881, Brahms poured that same free spirit into his Piano Concerto No. 2. It’s an absolute charmer for audiences, but a bear for the pianist. A concerto with the grandeur of a symphony, it is athletic, turbulent, tender, and fiery, and a perfect showcase for the talents of pianist and ASO Artist-in-Residence, Anna Geniushene.

    When Patrick's brother, Greg, announces he’s getting remarried in Italy, Maisie and Grant are not thrilled. Patrick feels drawn to take the two back under his wing. As they travel through Europe on their way to the wedding, Patrick tries his best to help them understand love, much as he once helped them comprehend grief. But when they arrive in Italy, Patrick is overextended managing a groom with cold feet; his sister, Clara, flirting with guests left and right; a growing rivalry with the kids’ charming soon-to-be-launt (lesbian aunt), and two moody young teens trying to adjust to a new normal, all culminating in a disastrous rehearsal dinner.
