Rachmaninoff's First Symphony

Event Details: After a career spanning 60 years, Philip Glass still sits at the cutting edge of music. He's influenced generations of classical composers, as well as David Bowie and The Talking Heads. He's worked with Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, and Leonard Cohen. Grammy® award-winning violinist Jennifer Koh returns to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to play what’s been called the "best concerto of the last 50 years" (ClassicFM.com), Philip Glass' Violin Concerto No. 1. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra welcomes the return of local favorite Jerry Hou, a rising star on the contemporary music scene, to conduct a world-premiere composition by the jazz-inspired composer Nicky Sohn. The evening goes out with a bang in Rachmaninoff's galloping Symphony No. 1.

Additional Information: Seats are truly great $55 seats, middle orchestra right, which are provided to us for $22 per seat through the ASO’s community ticketing program. When you register for an ASO event, a ticket is purchased in your name, and you are required to reimburse Paul Hinson for the $22/ticket cost of your ticket(s) the evening of the performance. Cash is accepted in the exact amount. Electronic transfers and payments (Zelle, cash app, etc.) are NOT accepted.

Registrations can be canceled ONLY 5 days or more before the event. (To cancel a reservation, go to your profile and select "My event registrations.") If due to unforeseen circumstances you are not able to use your ticket, you must still reimburse Paul for the purchase price of your tickets.

Parking: Free parking is available in the Ansley Park neighborhood along 15th street on weeknights—you’ll see neighborhood parking decal sticker requirements on parking signs but most of those signs will indicate that neighborhood stickers are not required weekday evenings before 10PM. However when parking in that area be advised that occasionally cars are ticketed right after 10PM in the neighborhood to the east of the Arts Center. Some members elect to continue to park there and take that risk. Paid parking is also available in the arts center garage, or in any of several other garages in the area such as the Promenade. Midtown Bowl charges an hourly rate of $40.00 per lane but we get the reduced league rate. So, we can all enjoy a cost-effective fun time bowling. The APT Host pays for the lane on his credit card, and you reimburse with cash or most electronic payment apps. Bowling shoe rental is now just $4.00 + tax and must be paid via a credit card.

Event Details: Ricky Commins, who also performs under the name Alex Commins, started playing and performing at the age of nine. Over the last 25 years he has played with Larry Campbell, who was Bob Dylan’s guitarist for over 10 years and Jorma Kaukonen who was the guitarist for The Jefferson Airplane.

Ricky plays acoustic guitar and has an extensive repertoire of folk, americana, Blues, pop, bluegrass, even Motown. His style is primarily fingerpicking.

You will definitely enjoy his concert!

Parking: There is ample parking in the BUMC side lot. Turn from North Druid Hills onto Briarwood Road and then into the parking lot.

If you have mobility concerns, park in the reserved spaces on North Druid Hills on the side of the church and then proceed up the walkway to the white doors below the steeple.
