Event Details: Following a silent auction of the Tom of Finland book collection between 3:00 - 3:30 p.m., Dr. David Jaquess will discuss the topic "We are All Connected ... Unless We're Not."

Dr. Jacquess is a licensed and board-certified psychologist who has been engaged in clinical work for over 30 years, has taught at the baccalaureate and graduate levels at Emory University School of Medicine for more than 10 years, and is currently a staff psychologist within a multidisciplinary mental health team at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Healthcare System, where he also serves as one of two Veteran Care Coordinators for LGBTQ+ Veterans in the Atlanta region. He maintains a small private practice and resides with his husband in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

The focus of his presentation is that humans are social creatures who have needs for social comfort and connection in addition to drives like hunger, thirst, sleep, and sex. Biological dynamics serve to strengthen social ties. Factors like moving from one region to another, ending intimate relationships, losing family and friends to conflict or death, leaving the workplace, and changes to health can cut out key social connections and leave us feeling alone—especially as we age. For those who manage to stay connected, the health benefits are striking: in the heart, the brain, the mind, and in overall emotional balance. How do people do it? What barriers do they overcome? What strategies may reverse loneliness or isolation? This presentation will open up an exchange of the group’s collective wisdom, describe recent research, and offer recommendations for how to find the difference that makes a difference.

Parking: There is ample parking in the BUMC side lot. Turn from North Druid Hills onto Briarwood Road and then into the parking lot.

If you have mobility concerns, park in the reserved spaces on North Druid Hills on the side of the church and then proceed up the walkway to the white doors below the steeple.

Event Details: Inspired by the chefs’ personal cultural background, Food Terminal’s concept reflects Malaysia’s diverse culinary cuisine. Malaysian food draws influence from India, Guang Zhou, Hokkien, Teochew, and Hakka provinces due to the early 1900’s migration for tin and railroad labor demand. As such, Food Terminal’s menu features a high variety of Asian street foods with heavy emphasis on Malaysian cuisine. Food Terminal’s mission is to bring the most authentic Asian-style street taste and experience to Buford Highway.

Event Details: Join your fellow Atlanta Prime Timers for a few games of bowling the first & third Sundays of each month. We gather at Midtown Bowl at 12:00 noon for fun and socialization. Your skill level is unimportant. What is important is that everyone has fun!

Midtown Bowl charges an hourly rate of $40.00 per lane but we get the reduced league rate. So, we can all enjoy a cost-effective fun time bowling. The APT Host pays for the lane on his credit card, and you reimburse with cash or most electronic payment apps. Bowling shoe rental is now just $4.00 + tax and must be paid via a credit card.

Now, she joins her daughter and acclaimed singer-songwriter Emily Estefan, to co-write the music and lyrics for BASURA, a powerful and bold new musical inspired by the true story of Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra, where young artists turn scrap material into instruments and music into possibilities. This world premiere musical continues Estefan’s global legacy — proving that music can rise from anywhere and change everything.

What do you do when the world gives you nothing? You build something beautiful. In a community against all odds, an inspired music teacher starts an orchestra for the students, but they have no instruments. Empty paint cans, a fork, and a bent license plate become a violin, an oil drum transforms into a colorful cello, and the newly formed orchestra hits every note to the beat of something bigger. When the students' instruments become symbols of possibility, the sound is heard around the world.

BASURA is directed by the Broadway stage visionary Michael Greif (Rent, Dear Evan Hansen), and written by National Latino Playwriting Award-winner Karen Zacarías (Native Gardens, Destiny of Desire). Grammy Award® and Tony Award® winner Alex Lacamoire (Hamilton, In the Heights) is the musical supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger. Patricia Delgado (Buena Vista Social Club) will choreograph, and Ken Cerniglia (Hadestown, Newsies) rounds out the team as dramaturg.

Based on the award-winning documentary film Landfill Harmonic, the new musical carries the sound of Paraguay’s Recycled Orchestra farther than anyone could have ever imagined. BASURA is an unforgettable journey of rhythm, resilience, and extraordinary music — a radiant, heart-swelling reminder that even in the most unlikely places, you can build something beautiful.

Event Details: Based on Louisa May Alcott's 1868–69 semi-autobiographical novel. The classic story of four sisters growing up in 19th-century Massachusetts in this beloved tale of family, self-discovery, and hope. It focuses on the four March sisters in Concord, Massachusetts. Recorded live at the Park Theatre in the London West End.

Event Details: Join your fellow APT members for a guided behind the scenes tour of the historic Fox Theater. During the tour, you will step back in time to the golden era of the movie palace at the Fabulous Fox Theater!

The theater was originally planned as part of a large Shrine Temple as evidenced by its Moorish design. The 4,665-seat auditorium was ultimately developed as a lavish movie theater in the Fox Theatres chain and opened in 1929. It hosts a variety of cultural and artistic events including the Atlanta Ballet, a summer film series, and performances by national touring companies and popular artists. See why the city of Atlanta cried out to Save the Fox! from the wrecking ball in the 1970s and fall in love with the theater under a canopy of stars!

We will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the Peachtree Street entrance in front of the box office. Our tour begins promptly at 11:00 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour.

Following the tour, enjoy an optional lunch (and maybe an afternoon cocktail) with your friends at the Publik Draft House, with choices like shrimp & grits, chicken pot pie, and biscuits & gravy!

Cost: $20 for the Fox tour; lunch on your own tab.

Please bring $20 cash or a cheque made out to Atlanta Prime Timers the day of the event. If you register for this event and do not show up or cancel by June 9, you will be obligated to pay the $20 admission fee.

Parking: MARTA, if convenient, is the best way to get to the Fox. Exit at the North Avenue Station and walk up to Peachtree Street.
